The Year That Tested My Edges

Every year leaves a mark.

Some leave memories. Some leave lessons.

But this year, it left fingerprints on my soul.

CHAPTER 1: The Year That Arrived Without Warning

Some years enter your life with soft footsteps.

This one thundered in.

2025 didn’t wait for me to be ready.

It didn’t care if I had the strength, the stability, the emotional bandwidth, or the courage to hold myself upright.

It just came. with chaos, with pressure, with change, with unexpected battles.

And suddenly, I was living a life that demanded more from me than I had ever been taught to give.

CHAPTER 2: The Weight I Didn’t Know I Was Carrying

There’s a different kind of heaviness that doesn’t show.

People see you, but they don’t see you.

Behind the everyday conversations, behind the work emails, behind the normal routines,

I was silently carrying burdens that were stretching the limits of my emotional and physical being.

The stress that clung to my shoulders.

The loneliness that sat inside my chest.

The exhaustion that lived in my bones.

The pressure of being strong when strength was the last thing I felt.

The expectations I tried so hard to meet.

The parts of me that were screaming while I appeared perfectly fine.

No one prepares you for invisible battles.

You just learn to fight them anyway.

CHAPTER 3: Breaking in Places No One Could See

This is where I bring truth with no filter.

Because if I don’t honour it now, when will I?

There were nights I was howling into my pillow, quietly, desperately, painfully,

because I didn’t want the world to hear the sound of my breaking.

No one was listening. No one even knew.

It was just me and my overthinking mind

spiralling through what-ifs, should-haves, and fears I didn’t have the strength to silence.

And that overthinking?

It took a toll on my mental health in ways I’m still trying to make sense of.

There were struggles I couldn’t show anyone, not my colleagues, not my friends,

not my family. I carried them alone,

because sometimes your heartbreak is too personal, too raw, too complicated to explain.

And in those nights, I felt self-doubt gripping my throat like a vice,  fears of not being enough, fears of being misunderstood,

fears of losing myself, fears of never being accepted for who I truly am.

Insecurity became a shadow. Self-doubt became a language. Loneliness became a routine.

But even then, even in those silent midnights…

I didn’t break.

I bent, but I didn’t break.

CHAPTER 4: The Moments That Held Me Together

Even in the intensity of those nights, something kept me grounded.

Sometimes it was a poem flowing out of nowhere, a lifeline thrown by my own soul.

Sometimes it was a breath that somehow felt enough.

Sometimes it was a moment of clarity that whispered,

“You’re going to get through this.”

CHAPTER 5: Rising From the Unseen Battles

I see now what I couldn’t see then.

I was not breaking. I was becoming.

Every night I survived, every fear I walked through,

every insecurity I confronted,

they turned me into a stronger, clearer, more grounded version of myself.

I emerged from those silent battles wiser.

More aware. More resilient. More conscious of my emotional landscape.

Quietly, without applause, without support,

without anyone even knowing…I rebuilt

 myself.

CHAPTER 6: A Soft Bow to a Hard Year

As I reflect now, I don’t feel bitterness.

I feel recognition. This year wasn’t cruel for no reason.

It was shaping me. Sharpening me. Preparing me.

From wading knee-deep into unfamiliar waters to counting every rupee just to keep myself afloat in Gurugram’s unforgiving pace, this year pushed me into corners of myself I never knew existed.

Long, lonely stretches, the streetlights flickering like tiny witnesses to my silent war.

Every step was a reminder:

you’re saving money, you’re surviving,

you’re trying.

I walked with tired feet, a tired heart, and a tired soul, but I walked anyway.

Because stopping was never an option.

But what I respect the most in myself is not the struggle, it’s the silence with which I bore it.

The scars I hid so well that even my reflection didn’t recognize them.

The tears that rolled onto my pillow while the world slept peacefully.

The heartbreak I swallowed quietly in metro rides and office washrooms.

The fear of failing, of not being enough, of not being seen, all tucked inside a smile I wore every morning like armour.

And maybe the real victory was this:

In a city that runs on speed, noise, and survival,

I held on to gentleness.

I preserved my softness.

I protected the last pieces of myself even when life tried to take them away.

I didn’t seek sympathy.

I didn’t seek validation.

I didn’t seek approval.

I endured. I evolved. I emerged.

Not loud, not dramatic, not celebrated, but quietly, gracefully.

I owned every bit of who I became.

2025 may have tested my edges,

but it also taught me how powerful I am when no one is watching.

I bow to this year, not for the pain,

but for the becoming.

Because the woman I am now?

She was birthed from the silence of loneliness,

strengthened by battles fought in the dark,

and softened by courage I never knew I had.

And that woman is ready for everything that  2026 unfolds...
